11 July 2011

We are well into the 2011 Rugby season, and so far Wanderers have met with mixed results. It has also been a mixed season with our home at No. 2 Sports Ground presently undergoing major reconstruction. Home games this season have been scheduled for both No.1 Sports Ground and Passmore Oval. Due to wet weather one home game was transferred to Hawkins Oval.

By the way, training on Tuesday and Thursday nights takes place at Islington Oval. “Wanderers” in every sense of the word. Next game Saturday, 16th July, v Merewether at Townson Oval. Perhaps the only stability in the club this season is the Wanderers Rugby Community Annual Lunch. This has now become a regular event, held on the Friday before the last home game at the Newcastle Club. This year it is Friday, 19th August. Please see the attached Booking Form for more details.

Our thanks are also due to those of you who have renewed your W.R.C. memberships. I have also attached a renewal form for those who have yet to do so. Please forward on to a team-mate if you have not already done so. Recycling is very important. If you are passing No.2 Sports Ground, you will see that significant progress has been made on the redevelopment. The new light towers have been erected and the new stand is certainly taking shape. It is my understanding that all will be in readiness for the opening at the commencement of the 2012 season.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries. Looking forward to seeing you at a Wanderers game or at the lunch on the 19th August.

Kind regards,
Andrew Traill

It has long been a major issue that our Club does not have the capability to stay in touch with past players and Club Supporters. While some effort to communicate with members has been made through establishing a monthly newsletter it is recognised that our contact lists and details are seriously inaccurate and incomplete. Thankfully, due the initiative of Glenn Turner, a group has been formed to address this.

The formation of the Wanderers Rugby Community (WRC), a WRFC sub committee, was approved at the March 2008 committee meeting. The subcommittee consisting of Andrew Macansh - President, Andrew Traill - Secretary, Glenn Turner - Treasurer and a committee comprising Morgan Jones, Tom Maddern, Ian Dent. The role of the WRC is to manage all activities related to coordination with Wanderers non playing members.

The immediate aim is to increase membership of the WRC. Membership is open to all past players and past and present supporters. We would very much like you to become part of this rejuvenation of Wanderers and would welcome your application to be part of the WRC. If you would like to join please contact Andy Traill on snailtraill@bigpond.com.au and Andy will send you an application form and details of the benefits of membership.
