WANDERERS ACADEMY (U16 - U20)
The Wanderers Rugby Academy is a specialist off season program that is focused on developing our Under 16 - Under 20 rugby players so they can “achieve their potential”. Our coaches utilise techniques and methodologies consistent with representative rugby teams nationally and internationally.
The Academy program has been designed and implemented by Wanderers to build a stronger pathway into representative rugby, senior rugby and beyond. In past years we have had numerous players that have participated in our Academy Programs, play representative rugby from a Wildfires/CHS/ CCC/ AICES level, through to NSWCRU with some selected on to Gen Blue squads, State and National level. Our program is an excellent opportunity to enhance our player’s from both a technical skills and a physical development perspective, as well as developing them off the field and teaching lessons in social responsibility. We combine a high performance coaching program and a community development program under the same banner.
Now in it’s ninth year, the Wanderers Academy has been specifically designed to enhance player preparation for the up-coming Season.
We provide the opportunity to:
The commitment is fairly simple, players need to be available for all, or the majority of Tuesday and Thursday afternoon sessions. Please be at the venue by 4:45pm, dressed and ready to train, training will begin promptly at 5:00pm. Outside of these sessions players may be given activities or programs to complete between the sessions to compliment the program.
From time to time there may be a special testing session conducted, players are expected to be available for these sessions. Other social events may be conducted with the aim of building club culture and relationships, player attendance at these events is encouraged but not mandatory.
Players are expected to wear their Academy Kit to all sessions, joggers only are to be worn, boots and mouthguards are to be in players bags as they may be required in some sessions. Players are to bring their own water bottles.
The Club is understanding that due to school, work and university commitments, sometimes attending sessions will not be possible. If you are unable to make a session please have the courtesy to contact Shane (0414 657 752) or leave a message on the Academy Facebook page.
It is expected that players who participate in the Academy Program will join our Wanderers Rugby Pathway and commit to staying at Wanderers in coming years and progress into our Grade Rugby programs.
