U8 to U12 Games: 1. Complete a Referee Ready course (Cost $0, 3 hours, online, must be turning 13 in the calendar year to attend) 2. Pass a Refereeing Kids Rugby online exam 3. Pass an on field assessment |
U13 to Adult Games: 1. Complete a Referee Ready course (Cost $0, 3 hours, online, must be turning 15 in the calendar year to attend) 2. Pass a Level 1 Referee online exam 3. Pass a Referee competency assessment (conducted by the NRURA). |
Assistant Referee U8 to U12 1. Complete the 'Assistant Refereeing Kids Rugby U8-U12' online learning course ($15, must be turning 13 in the calendar year) |
Assistant Referee U13 to Adult 1. Complete the 'Assistant Referee Level 1 Program' online learning course ($20, must be turning 15 in the calendar year) 2. Pass a Level 1 Assistant Referee online exam (50 questions) |

Smart Rugby
Smart Rugby, the Health and Safety Program for Rugby, is the compulsory minimum requirement for every referee participating in rugby where there is a tackling component (U8+).
Smart Rugby is updated annually to reflect changes to the way the game is played and refereed.
It is essential that everyone who is involved with the game completes the Smart Rugby program to ensure they are up-to-date in the techniques and its Laws.
Smart Rugby eLearning course is a free online course, allowing self-directed learning for all coaches and referees.
